3 parts in one volume. Contemporary beautiful hand-colouring

to all the 124 plates (121 + 3 titles). Joints & corners of the

binding a bit worn, some leather wear, marbled endpapers,

some stains in the lower margin of the last plates, all pages and

plates are on tabs. 3 Lithographed titles [printed by Lemercier],

121 full-page plates & numerous wood-engravings in-text. The

plates are by Gaspari Sensi; the frontispieces, ornamental let-

ters, and text cuts are by Victor Sansonetti engraved by Faxardo.

Complete set of plates of this famous work on the armor and

vestments of the Musée d’Artillerie de Madrid. Jubinal (1810-

75) also authored important works on tapestries, manuscripts,

medieval literature, etc. This work was originally issued in parts

(see Colas) and is hard to nd complete with the supplement

(in our copy the 46 text pages of the suppl. are not bound in).

Akademie. “Phantasiereicher und vielseitig tätiger Künstler. In

gleicher Weise das Figürliche, wie Landschaftliches und Archi-

tektonisches beherrschend. Als Maler hauptsächlich Wandbilder

für Industriebauten” (Vollmer).

Fine copy with 35 orig. engravings and artistic blindpressed

vellum binding. Some offsetting of the protection leaves.

446. Shunga. - Erotic color woodblock print book (En-

pon) from 19th c. Japan. 13 leaves of Japanese washi

paper (every leaf consists of 2 folded leaves) with 14

fullpage woodblock color printed illustrations (of which

6 are double page illustrations), second leaf cut open at

the fold, in ne conditions and fresh, original japanese

paperbinding, slightly worn. HRB 90853 3200.-

Shunga (picture of spring) is a term used for erotic images in

Japan. Like the present ne example they were mostly a form

of Ukiyo-e, executed in woodblock print format and often sold

in book form called enpon. They show sexual acts between men
