Very important monograph on epilepsy, by the famous physician

from Lausanne, Samuel Tissot. One of two or three editions

that appeared in 1770. According to the title page of this copy

it was published in Paris only. We found descriptions of 1770

editions that indicate Lausanne as the place of publishing, and

another one indicating both Lausanne and Paris. Fine copy in

contemporary calf, spine on 5 bands richly gilt with title piece

of red morocco, red edges. “Tissot collected material for many

years for his important treatise on nervous diseases. His work

«Traité des nerfs ...» is especially important because of his

numerous condensations of previous literature and his precise

references to many writers otherwise forgotten or overlooked.

One of the most signicant portions of this work «Traité des

nerfs ...» is his monograph on epilepsy which has appeared

seperately several years earlier. Overall, Tissot’s importance is

due to his clear differentiation between diseases of the nervous

system and the pathology of the other nervous systems, which

lead the foundations of modern neurology” (Eimas to «Tissot:
